Στην Αθήνα θα βρεθεί στις 5 Δεκέμβρη ο αμερικανός αντιπρόεδρος κ. Τζο Μπάιντεν






Την Ελλάδα και συγκεκριμένα την Αθήνα πρόκειται να επισκεφθεί  ο αντιπρόεδρος των Η.Π.Α. Τζο Μπάιντεν, όπως επιβεβαιώθηκε από τον Λευκό Οίκο.

 «Στην Αθήνα ο αντιπρόεδρος θα συνεχίσει το διάλογο και τη στενή συνεργασία μας με την ελληνική κυβέρνηση», αναφέρει η ανακοίνωση του Λευκού Οίκου. Ο κ. Μπάιντεν, σύμφωνα με  πληροφορίες, θα έλθει στην πατρίδα μας στις 5 Δεκεμβρίου και πρόκειται να συναντηθεί με τον πρωθυπουργό κ. Γ. Παπανδρέου. Την ίδια περίοδο, ο Αμερικανός αντιπρόεδρος θα βρεθεί και στην Κωνσταντινούπολη, όπου θα συμμετάσχει σε συνέδριο για την επιχειρηματικότητα.


Ο Τζο Μπάιντεν (Αγγλικά: Joseph Robinette "Joe" Biden, Jr.) είναι Αμερικανός πολιτικός και σημερινός αντιπρόεδρος των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών της Αμερικής. Ήταν γερουσιαστής από το Ντελάγουερ από τις 3 Ιανουαρίου 1973 και μέχρι την παραίτησή του, λόγω της εκλογής του στην αντιπροεδρία, στις 15 Ιανουαρίου 2009. Ο Μπάιντεν γεννήθηκε στο Σκράντον της Πενσυλβάνια και έζησε εκεί για 10 χρόνια πριν μετακομίσει στο Ντελάγουερ. Έγινε δικηγόρος το 1969 και το 1970 εκλέχτηκε κομητειακός σύμβουλος. Το 1972 εκλέχτηκε στη Γερουσία, ο 6ος τότε νεώτερος γερουσιαστής στην ιστορία του σώματος. Επανεκλέχτηκε έξι φορές και ήταν ο τέταρτος τη τάξει γερουσιαστής τη στιγμή της παραίτησής του.
Ο Μπάιντεν διετέλεσε μακροχρόνιο μέλος αλλά και πρόεδρος της Επιτροπής Εξωτερικών Σχέσεων της Γερουσίας. Υποστήριξε σθεναρά την παρέμβαση των ΗΠΑ στον πόλεμο της Βοσνίας. Αντιτάχθηκε στον πόλεμο του Κόλπου το 1991. Ψήφισε υπέρ του πολέμου στο Ιράκ το 2002, αλλά αργότερα πρότεινε ψηφίσματα για την αλλαγή της στρατηγικής των ΗΠΑ. Διατέλεσε επίσης πρόεδρος της Δικαστικής Επιτροπής της Γερουσίας, όπου ασχολήθηκε με ζητήματα όπως η πολιτική για τα ναρκωτικά, η πρόληψη του εγκλήματος και οι πολιτικές ελευθερίες. Ήταν πρόεδρος της Δικαστικής Επιτροπής κατά την εξέταση δύο υποψηφιοτήτων για το Ανώτατο Δικαστήριο, των δικαστών Ρόμπερτ Μπορκ και Κλάρενς Τόμας.
Ο Μπάιντεν διεκδίκησε ανεπιτυχώς το χρίσμα των Δημοκρατικών για τις προεδρικές εκλογές το 1988 και του 2008. Και τις δύο φορές αποσύρθηκε νωρίς στην αρχή της διαδικασίας. Ο Μπαράκ Ομπάμα τον επέλεξε ως υποψήφιο αντιπρόεδρο για τις προεδρικές εκλογές του 2008. Είναι ο πρώτος ρωμαιοκαθολικός αντιπρόεδρος των ΗΠΑ, καθώς και ο πρώτος με καταγωγή από το Ντελάγουερ.

Προσωπική ζωή

Ο Τζο Μπάιντεν παντρεύτηκε το 1966 τη Νίλια Χάντερ με την οποία απέκτησαν τρία παιδιά, δύο γιους και μία κόρη. Στις 18 Δεκεμβρίου 1972, λίγες εβδομάδες μετά την εκλογή του στη Γερουσία, η γυναίκα του και η κόρη του σκοτώθηκαν σε αυτοκινητιστικό δυστύχημα. Οι δύο γιοι του επίσης τραυματίστηκαν σοβαρά αλλά ανάρρωσαν πλήρως. Το 1975 παντρεύτηκε την Τζιλ Τρέισι Τζέικομπς με την οποία απέκτησε μία κόρη.

Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., was born November 20, 1942, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the first of four siblings. In 1953, the Biden family moved from Pennsylvania to Claymont, Delaware. He graduated from the University of Delaware and Syracuse Law School and served on the New Castle County Council. Then, at age 29, he became one of the youngest people ever elected to the United States Senate.
Just weeks after the election, tragedy struck the Biden family, when Biden's wife, Neilia, and their 1-year old daughter, Naomi, were killed and their two young sons critically injured in an auto accident. Vice President Biden was sworn in to the U.S. Senate at his sons' hospital bedside and began commuting to Washington every day by train, a practice he maintained throughout his career in the Senate.
In 1977, Vice President Biden married Jill Jacobs. Jill Biden, who holds a Ph.D. in Education, has been an educator for over two decades and currently teaches at a DC-area community college. The Vice President has three children: Beau, Hunter, and Ashley. Beau serves as Delaware's Attorney General and recently returned home from Iraq where he served as a Captain in the 261st Signal Brigade of the Delaware National Guard. Ashley is a social worker and Hunter is an attorney. Vice President Biden has five grandchildren: Naomi, Finnegan, Roberta Mabel ("Maisy"), Natalie, and Robert Hunter.
As a Senator from Delaware for 36 years, Senator Biden established himself as a leader on some of our nation's most important domestic and international challenges. As Chairman or Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee for 17 years, then-Senator Biden was widely recognized for his work on criminal justice issues including the landmark 1994 Crime Bill and the Violence Against Women Act. As Chairman or Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee since 1997, then-Senator Biden played a pivotal role in shaping U.S. foreign policy. He has been at the forefront of issues and legislation related to terrorism, weapons of mass destruction, post-Cold War Europe, the Middle East, and Southwest Asia.
Now, as the 47th Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden has continued his leadership on important issues facing the nation.  The Vice President was tasked with implementing the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, helping to rebuild our economy and lay the foundation for a sustainable economic future. He is also the chair of the administration’s Middle Class Task Force, a major White House initiative targeted at raising the living standards of middle class families in America. In addition, he is providing sustained, high level focus for the administration on Iraq policy and has traveled to the country multiple times since being elected as Vice President.  Vice President Biden continues to draw on his vast foreign policy experience, advising the President on a multitude of international issues and representing our country to many regions of the world, including travel to Germany, Belgium, Chile, Costa Rica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Lebanon, Georgia, Ukraine, Iraq, Poland, Romania, the Czech Republic, Israel, the Palestinian Territories, Jordan, Spain, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Finland, Russia, Moldova, Italy, China, Mongolia, and Japan

Military Academy Nominations: The Vice President is authorized to nominate individuals to the United States Military, Naval, and Air Force Academies. 

Vice President Joe Biden met with Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou as part of the Administration’s frequent consultations with our European allies on our shared agenda and in recognition of the historic relationship between the United States and Greece. The Vice President expressed strong support for Greece’s economic and political reforms and applauded the Prime Minister’s bold leadership. He expressed his appreciation for the Prime Minister’s efforts to advance the integration of the countries of Southeast Europe into Euro-Atlantic structures, and he emphasized the need for leaders in Athens and Skopje to quickly agree upon a mutually acceptable solution to resolve their differences over the name issue.
The two leaders discussed the recent decision by the International Court of Justice on Kosovo’s declaration of independence and how to move forward so that the people of Serbia and Kosovo are able to become fully a part of a Europe whole and free and at peace. The Vice President and the Prime Minister discussed the situation in Cyprus and expressed their full support for the Cypriot-led process, under the good offices of the UN, towards a just and lasting settlement that reunifies Cyprus as a bi-zonal and bi-communal federation. The Vice President applauded efforts by Greece and Turkey to strengthen their relations.
The Vice President and Prime Minister also discussed the Middle East. The two leaders emphasized their support for the direct talks between Israel and the Palestinians, and the need for both sides to continue the process until they reach an agreement on two states. The Vice President reiterated the need for Iran to comply fully and unconditionally with UN Security Council resolutions related to its nuclear program and to engage constructively in discussions with the P5+1.
